Platform beds are increasingly popular today. The way they are made does not necessitate having a box spring. Mattress stores suggest that a box spring is much stronger than the wood frames of the past. This may or may not mean that your platform bed has inadequate support. That is really up to you. It is important that you do everything you can to help your bedding last. It is also important to do all you can to stay comfortable as you sleep. It may be that purchasing a new box spring every time you purchase mattresses will save you in the end because it may extend the life of your bed.
Realistically from all of the research I have done on this (and with a girlfriend that constantly debates this point with me Ive done my share of research) I have concluded that box springs only do two things well and that is 1. increase the overall height of the bed and 2. soften the overall firmness of the bed (given that the box spring is not extremely firm). Helping the mattress last longer is a distant distant and arguable third. As a person who neither cares for a tall bed nor a soft bed I found that platform beds are the most stylishly modern environmentally-friendly pieces of furniture to complement my mattress. You simply dont need a box spring for your mattress/bed.
Of all the benefits to platform beds none is as helpful and noticeable as the end to box springs. Box springs have always been more of a hassle than anything else and can even ruin the comfort brought about by a nice new mattress. The idea is that a standard bed frame cannot support a mattress directly. The box spring rests between the mattress and the frame providing "durable" balance and foundation. In reality the box spring creaks wears out and even breaks after continuous use. The problem is introducing an additional element to the bed - an element that typically doesnt have the strength to last very long without becoming an issue. Platform beds remedy this problem by removing the box spring from the equation altogether.
The most important and healthiest thing to remember is to wash your sheets blankets pillowcases and mattress covers if you have them in hot water a minimum of once a week! Wash your mattress and pillow encasings once every 2 to 3 months and if your mattress encasings are protected with a mattress cover wash your encasings in hot water once every 4 to 6 months Also keep your home clean as possible! Use quality HEPA air cleaners or HEPA air purifiers with a high air exchange rate per hour in the needed bedrooms and family room. Purchase and vacuum often with a quality HEPA vacuum cleaner that is totally sealed so it does not leak dust and allergens back into the air while vacuuming! Thank you for reading this report.
