Although headboard and footboards along with side and front rails are part of bed frames the contemporary bed frames generally have only the headboard. Such headboard only beds often incorporate a ruffle or a valance sheet to hide the frames. Then again canopy beds are also found in contemporary styles. In fact if you look up the internet you will find so many styles of contemporary bed frames that you will feel a little lost.
Larger beds are called queen sized beds or king sized beds. In these larger beds a wooden or metallic piece is placed crosswise the length of the frame. This bar supplies extra support for the unsupported middle of larger mattresses. However in single bed or double bed mattresses the extra support is not that required because in these cases the mattresses remain set by the edge shelves on the edges of the said bed frame.
Platform frames are amongst the most popular modern bed frames. This is because they provide extra storage space under the beds that can prove useful at all times. Waterbed frames have to be stronger and with higher edges to support the weight of a waterbed. The frame of waterbeds closely resembles that of the platform bed frame. Canopy frames can represent both traditional and modern era depending on the design of the frames. They provide modern comforts with traditional classical styles that a lot of homeowners love.
