Box Spring / September 8, 2017 / Pierrette Segal
After finding a company that you feel comfortable with call their scheduling department or order online and set up an appointment. A reputable company will give you a time window that they will be there and will call ahead to let you know when they are on their way. These are little things to make the experience better for the customer. 3 More often than not especially in Indiana you will not be able to donate these items nor mattresses. This is the case because second hand mattresses are notorious for passing on second hand bed bugs. So it is now becoming standard that these items have to be disposed of; worry not they can however be recycled. In Indianapolis we take them to a recycling center called DAO and are at least able to make the customers happy about the recycling element rather than the mattresses ending up in the dump or landfill.
When your bed has worn out and you know it is time for a change you should realize that you will need to purchase the box springs as well. Some mattress stores would say this is very important because the springs help keep the bedding in good shape for longer because the two are meant to work together. They would also say it is important because of the concerns with fires. It may be that yours do not meet the standard.
Today with comfort zones targeted at various positions along the mattress this rotation is no longer suggested and the handles which would often break when holding the weight of the entire mattress were removed. It is very important when moving a mattress from one home to another to cover it somehow. Dont rely on a sheet either. Many stores that stock boxes and other packing material will have plastic bags large enough to enclose the mattress and box spring. This is essential for keeping dirt and water from damaging the set. These bags may come complete with handles or one can also use a very long piece of rope to create a handle. It is just like trussing up a turkey. Be sure to draw the rope all around the mattress and distribute the weight of the mattress as evenly as possible.
